About Your Faculty: Knoxville

John McClartyJudge John McClarty was appointed to the Eastern Section of the Tennessee Court of Appeals in January 2009 and elected in August 2010. He was involved in over 5,000 civil and criminal cases during his 32 years of practicing law.

 

Thomas Frierson IIChancellor Thomas R. (Skip) Frierson II of Morristown serves on the Chancery Court for the Third Judicial District (Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, and Hawkins counties). He was appointed to the bench in March 1996, elected in August 1996 and re-elected in 1998 and 2006.

 

John McAfeeJudge John McAfee has served the Eighth Judicial District – which consists of Campbell, Claiborne, Fentress, Scott, and Union counties – as a circuit judge since his election in 2004. He previously served as Claiborne County’s general sessions judge and juvenile judge from 1998 through 2004.

 

Michael MoyersChancellor Michael W. Moyers has served the Sixth Judicial District – which consists of Knox County – as a chancellor since his election in 2006. He previously served as Knox County Law Director from 2000 to 2006.

 

Terry AdamsTerry Adams, of the Adams Law firm, focuses his practice on negotiations and contracts. He has received certificates from The Program on Negotiation at the Harvard Law School and 60 hours in continuing legal education from that program.  In addition, Mr. Adams received a certificate in Advocacy from the University of San Francisco’s School of Law Intensive Advocacy Program. He is also a Certified National Football League Players Association Contract Advisor.


Fred BakerFred Baker is a member in the Cookeville office of Wimberly Lawson Wright Daves & Jones, PLLC, which he joined in 2001. His practice includes an emphasis on workers’ compensation and employment discrimination, as well as ADA and FMLA compliance. He is the author of the Tennessee Workers’ Compensation Handbook, 4th Edition.

 

Monica FranklinMonica Franklin, CELA, is recognized throughout Tennessee as a leader in Elder Law. She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), the nation's preeminent professional organization for elder law attorneys. She is Certified as an Elder Law Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization as well as the National Elder Law Foundation. She regularly gives presentations to the general public, attorneys, and other professionals about elder law and has written numerous articles on the subject.

Sandy Garrett is Deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel – Litigation for the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court and has been with the Board of Professional Responsibility since October 1992.

Sidney GilreathSidney (Sid) W. Gilreath, of Gilreath & Associates, has over 30 years of experience representing plaintiffs in the areas of personal injury, product liability, and medical malpractice law. Although based in Tennessee, with offices in Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis, Gilreath & Associates handles cases throughout the southeastern United States. Mr. Gilreath is recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America in the area of personal injury law.

Kevin ShepherdKevin Shepherd has more than 20 years of experience and is currently in solo practice with an office located in Maryville. Charles YoungCharles (Chuck) Young, is an in-house attorney for Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Y-12, LLC in Oak Ridge after serving eight years as a litigator with Kramer Rayson LLP in Knoxville. About Your Faculty: Nashville

Patricia CottrellJudge Patricia Cottrell has been on the Middle Section of the Tennessee Court of Appeals for over 10 years. She was appointed to the Court of Appeals in November 1998, elected in 2000, and re-elected to an eight-year term in 2006. She is the first woman elected to serve as presiding judge for any section of a Tennessee appellate court.


Robbie BealJudge Robbie Beal was elected in 2006 as circuit judge for the 21st judicial district (Hickman, Lewis, Perry, and Williamson counties), Division I. Prior to his election to the circuit court, Judge Beal served as a juvenile court referee, having been appointed to that position in 1997. Before becoming a juvenile court referee, Judge Beal served as an Assistant District Attorney for the 21st Judicial District and was named the primary drug prosecutor. Judge Beal was in private practice with County Commissioner and former U.S. Attorney Ernie Williams. His practice involved litigation of all types, including domestic relations, corporate disputes, and personal injury.

Robert ChildersJudge Robert L. (Butch) Childers has been the presiding judge of Division 9 of the Circuit Court in Memphis since 1984 and chair of the Civil Pattern Jury Instruction Committee for the Tennessee Judicial Conference since 1991. Judge Childers serves on the American Bar Association’s advisory commission created to assist lawyers and other legal professionals with addiction and other personal problems. He is a past president of the Tennessee Judicial Conference and has served as a Special Judge of the Tennessee Supreme Court Workers’ Compensation Appeals Panel.

Jeff HollingsworthJudge Jeff Hollingswoth is a circuit court judge in Hamilton County. He practiced law for over 28 years before being elected to the bench in August 2006. He is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and the Tennessee Supreme Court Commission on Specialization. He is a former prosecutor with the Hamilton County District Attorney’s office and a former shareholder of Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel PC. He has also been elected as a Fellow of the Chattanooga and Tennessee Bar Foundations.

David AnthonyDavid M. Anthony, of Bone McAllester & Norton, concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy, commercial litigation, creditor’s rights, construction and lien litigation. He  represents clients throughout middle Tennessee  in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts. He also has significant experience representing financial institutions and other creditors in all aspects of the litigation process. He is a regular author and guest speaker on topics related to bankruptcy, post-judgment collections strategy, foreclosures, ethics and trial practice.

Rebecca BlairRebecca Blair has more than 14 years experience fighting for the rights of her clients in the courtroom.  Prior to founding The Blair Law Firm, Ms. Blair practiced at one of Tennessee's largest law firms focusing on complex litigation cases. Immediately before founding The Blair Law Firm, Ms. Blair was a named partner at Day & Blair, a premier Tennessee boutique law firm known for high-quality work in catastrophic injury and complex litigation. Andree BlumsteinAndrée Blumstein, of Sherrard & Roe, focuses on general business and civil practice, emphasizing the substantive areas of health law, antitrust, transnational law, employment law, distribution law, and state and local tax law. She is experienced in civil appellate litigation, as well as contract negotiation and drafting. She has been included on Woodward & White’s The Best Lawyers in America list in both Antitrust law and Appellate practice from 2003 to 2010.

Kitty BoyteKatherine (Kitty) Boyte is a defense attorney with Constangy, Brooks & Smith in Nashville. Over the past 20 plus years, she has successfully guided many of the largest employers of middle Tennessee through workers’ compensation and employment law issues. She has litigated workers’ compensation cases in over half of the 95 counties in Tennessee.

 

Daniel ClaytonDaniel Clayton, of Kinnard, Clayton & Beveridge, is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist and a Medical Malpractice Specialist. He is one of only nine attorneys in the state of Tennessee to hold both certifications. His areas of practice include catastrophic and personal injury, automobile and tractor-trailer litigation, wrongful death, medical negligence, and product liability. He is a past president of the Tennessee Association for Justice.


Marisa CombsMarisa Lee Combs is an associate in the Nashville office of Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop PC. She concentrates her practice in construction law and litigation, including liens, construction defect, and professional liability defense of architects, engineers, and surveyors.  Ms. Combs regularly represents contractors, owners, designers, and other members of the construction industry.


Harlan DodsonHarlan Dodson III, of Dodson, Parker, Behm & Capparella P.C., focuses his practice on work for individuals, corporations, and their businesses – including general business advice, real estate law, estate planning, and litigation in all courts. Mr. Dodson is a frequent speaker and writer on business entities, especially limited liability companies, as well as on wills and estate planning. He has taught Estate Planning at the Nashville School of Law since 1975, where he was presented with the Distinguished Faculty Award in 2007.
