Across the country, the number of foreclosures is skyrocketing. The number of American homes facing foreclosures was up a whopping 65% in April 2008 from April 2007. Nearly 250,000 homes (that's one in every 519 households) received at least one foreclosure-related filing in April 2008, and filings have increased from 2007 in all but eight states.
And the numbers don't look good for Tennessee:
- In the first quarter of 2008, foreclosures in Tennessee were up 72% over the same period last year.
- In March 2008, there were 2,315 new foreclosure filings. Over half of them -- 1,486 -- were in Shelby County, and there were 215 foreclosure sales.
- For the first quarter, there were 15,448 new foreclosure filings and 616 foreclosure sales.
Tennessee attorneys now find themselves faced with the arduous process of dealing with foreclosure issues.
